Institutional background

At Dundee College we are committed to providing quality services and are recognised as a centre of best practice, as endorsed by our recent HMle inspection report.

Our long-established links with employers and industrial training bodies ensure that our programmes are relevant to current employment opportunities and we are continually developing new programmes to match new and emerging job opportunities.

Articulation agreements with many universities make it easy for our students to progress to degree level study, often directly into 2nd or subsequent years.

We believe in equal opportunity and endeavour to treat all applicants fairly and without prejudice. We operate a College Charter that outlines the standards of service students can expect to receive at Dundee College. The College Charter also describes the responsibilities that we expect students to accept both for their own learning and towards their fellow students and college staff.

We welcome applications from students with disabilities or learning difficulties and will make every reasonable effort to meet their needs. Copies of the College Disability Statement are available on request from Advice Centres at every campus.

We can give information and advice to prospective students and parents, by appointment, in college advice centres or with members of the school/community liaison team. You can also meet college staff at local school careers conventions, which they attend by invitation.

Vocational Programmes And Awards

Scottish Qualifications Authority Awards

Most of the courses we offer lead to Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) Awards.

The range includes:
Higher and Intermediate Programmes, made up of units which each require 40 hours of study. Groups of units can be combined to build into a Scottish Group Award (SGA).

Access and Introductory Programmes, comprising a range of National Qualification level (NQ) units, also requiring around 40 hours of study. These lead to the award of a Record of Education and Training (RET) listing your achievements.

National Qualification (NQ) level Programmes, comprising a series of NQ units and requiring full-time attendance for up to 1 year. These lead to the award of a recognised NQ.

Higher National Certificate (HNC) Programmes, comprising a series of HN units requiring full-time attendance for up to 1 year. Completion of an HNC usually gives entry to Higher National Diploma (HND) level programmes or in some cases degree level study.

Higher National Diploma (HND) Programmes, comprising a series of HN units requiring full-time attendance for up to 2 years. Completion of an HND can give entry to degree level study, often directly into year 2 and in some cases year 3.

Professional Development Awards (PDA) are post-HNC level qualifications, designed to promote professional and personal development in specific career areas. Attendance patterns vary.

Those involved with the Connect Project have the opportunity to participate, as a member of a team, in a work-based activity designed to facilitate the development and application of leadership skills for the direct benefit of both the individual and the organisation in which they work. Also on offer is a leadership award from the Institute of Leadership and Management for those participants interested in certification.
