Smart Communities
A ‘Smart Community’ is one that provides an advanced communication and information infrastructure that enables residents and organisations to make good and independent use of, and gain benefit from advanced telecommunications networks.
An online portal is focused on providing local content generated and owned by local people. It is the coming together of elements of a community that creates a synergy that drives business growth.
We propose to train people to use a rural portal in Fife for regeneration purposes. We will also look at developing skills for a Smart Community in an urban regeneration area in Raploch.
Many organisations benefited from using the Mobile Learning Initiative (MOLI) coach during the first round of Equal. This was very successful, and will now be extended into the new project with Mini MOLIs.
SMEs in different geographical locations will have different needs. There
are four aspects to the Smart Communities initiative: productive
remote working; innovation through Open
Source Software; mobile/wireless technology
and Mini MOLIs.
