Stirling Council

Situated at the crossroads of Scotland, Stirling is the “broach which clasps the Highlands and Lowlands together”. The town with a population of 29,516 is a thriving and bustling cosmopolitan community. Its internationally reputed university attracts students from over 70 countries. The Stirling District comprising of 2196 square kilometres has a population of a further 55,704 because of its strategic location, Stirling has had a pivotal role in shaping Scottish history.

For many years Stirling has been a magnet for visitors throughout the world because of its history and its proximity to some of Scotland’s most spectacular scenery, including the Trossachs and Loch Lomond which form ‘The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park’, Scotland’s first National Park. The town now attracts over a million visitors every year, with almost half that number visiting its magnificent Castle.

The role of Stirling Council’s Economic Development Service is that of assisting to maintain existing employment levels and encourage potential growth of new employment opportunities. Training of unemployed residents to take advantage of these new employment opportunities as well as re-training existing employees to acquire new skills are its main responsibilities.

These services are facilitated by a range of initiatives that are contracted out to training providers. Whilst the services provided have proved successful, we recognise that there are still problem areas which require to be addressed. It is to this end that Stirling Council is proud to be one of the Development Partners of the Worklife Adaptability Partnership.
